Civil or symbolic ceremony, who to call? Pro marriage officiant or a friend?

The civil and symbolic ceremony requires a certain professionalism and experience for the celebrant. Can you ask a friend? My answer is Yes, but first you have to ask yourself a few questions :

1 do I have a friend who can marry me in a civil or symbolic ceremony?

2 Will my friend be able to lead? Do I feel like giving this responsibility?

3 Will my friend be able to interface with the conducting of the musicians?

Obviously writing this blog I don’t want to bring too much credit to ourself, but as a married person I remember well asking myself these questions, and I found the answers :

1 yes, a friend of mine actually married me and this is Giulio (the master of ceremonies who works with us). So I was lucky enough to have him near at this moment, because otherwise it would not have been easy to find another person. Since I got married with a symbolic rite, the choice was few, as the institutional figures were not appropriate: mayors, councilors, etc … Giulio was perfect, because he was good at what he does and because he was a reliable person.

2 a friend may not be able to lead simply because he never has and tensions can be high. In fact, nothing is more turbulent than two newlyweds who are on their way to get married. A friend could become their worst enemy if something goes wrong. So asking a friend to take such a risk is not a good idea, it adds a huge responsibility.

3 yes, you will have to understand all the phases of the ceremony. These of course can be learned, while the musical group will probably meet him for the first time on the day of the event. He will need to be a very flexible person, because an improvised collaboration is not successful for all people.

So my advice, given the fairly low cost (often the location where you get married costs more), is to call us and listen to our music + master of ceremonies proposals. Contact us for mail or whatsapp!
